BEST WINTER ILLUMINATION IN TOKYO FOR INSTAGRAM

Tokyo, Japan, a dream destination with glittering neon lights, a city that never sleeps. Winter is a time where the city is illuminated with Christmas neon lights which complements her already glowing glory.

If you are in Tokyo, with so many places to visit and little time to spend, i have picked the best and hidden illuminations in Tokyo and Yokohama!

Caretta Shiodome

This place is the most instagrammable. It in an open space within a shopping area with it’s location at a lower ground, hence making it perfect for a bird’s eye view. Moreover, this is a collaboration with Disney, so you get to meet the featured Disney character and short music performance – it is Frozen this year!

How to get to Caretta Shiodome:
Line:
JR Yamamote, JR Keihintohoku, Toei Asakusa & Yurikamome, Tokaido, Yokosuka, Joban
Station:
Shimbashi
Note: Blue lights

Roppongi Hills

The incredible view with Tokyo Tower and neon illumination. This spot is hidden behind Mori Gallery. Follow the signage “Keyaki zaka” which will lead you to a overhead bridge with this view on your left.

Tokyo Midtown

Just 10 min walk from Roppongi Hills, Tokyo Midtown, The Starlight Garden is my absolute favorite!
With 180,000 led lights and a light show, this illumination transports us to a surreal and magical la la land. It is an absolute art installation not to be missed.

Yokohama

Why squeeze with all the tourists? Fancy a private illumination all to yourself?
Travel with me like a local to the best kept secret – Yokohama City, the second largest city in Japan.

I was here at 9pm on a weekday and had the whole street to myself!
Yes ABSOLUTE ZERO tourist and passerby. We opened a bottle of wine and savor till the illumination is off.

On the way, be sure to visit Cosmo World, the landmark theme park with the Ferris Wheel.

Yokohama Smart Illumination

Yokohama Smart Illumination is an annual art event which is held only for 5 days during the last week of October.

It is located at Minato Mirai 21 (みなとみらい 21) , 15min walk from Yokohama station, a seaside urban area in central Yokohama whose name means “harbor of the future”. It is worth a visit if you are in Tokyo early for Autumn.

How to get to Yokohama Minato Mirai 21:
By Train: 40min away from Tokyo. Alight at Yokohama Station and walk 15min (500m) towards the Bay area
OR
Alight at Sakuragichō Station and 5min walk to the bay front
Note: Blue & pink lights

IF YOU HAVE ADDITIONAL TIME..

Yebisu Garden Place

Yebisu Garden Place is the birthplace of Yebisu beer. What I like are the westernized buildings and the choice of restaurant which you can choose from. Moreover, you can go to the Yebisu beer museum for free to know more about the history, view the illumination and sample the beer for a small fee.
